Lanark RFC v Hyndland RFC - Match Report

18 Sep 2017 by Iain Hughes

Lanark Rugby Club were hosts to Hyndland at the racecourse on Saturday in a high scoring entertaining game with a total 12 tries being notched up. Credit goes to both sides but it was Lanark who took the honours with 7 tries and an Iain Hughes penalty and 3 conversions to the visitor’s 5 tries and 4 conversions.
Hyndland made the running in the early stages and were ahead by 14 – 8 at the end of the first quarter, Lanark’s points coming from a Jonny O’Neil try and a penalty. However things changed when Steve McKeown claimed the next with a brilliant solo effort from the half way line followed shortly by one from Drew Jardine to make the score 20 – 14 at the turn round.
Lanark’s forwards were causing havoc at the set scrums frequently driving Hyndland off the ball. The next score came with Lanark’s forwards camped on the visitor’s line but it took several shots before referee Stu Wise was convinced a grounding had been made with David Masters getting the credit. From then on honours were shared with tries alternating three to each side with Nic Humphries who had a field day at stand-off claiming two and Callum Grant the other for Lanark.
It was an encouraging day for Lanark with plenty of talent on show. Unfortunately not all are going to be regularly available and there is at the moment a decided lack of back up players immediately available. Next Saturday will pose a much sterner test when they face Bishopton at the racecourse. The kick-off is at 3pm.
