The Future of Lanark Rugby Club - Is in YOUR hands!

1 Nov 2022 by Iain Hughes

Hi All,

This article is very important to read and act on as the future of Lanark Rugby Club ultimately hinges on everybody who has a vested interest in the club taking only 5-10mins out of their day to contribute to an online consultation form…….which is all of you please!! All i ask is that you please don’t rely on somebody else to do this. The link is at the bottom of this email.

From a personal perspective, the club has been great to me since moving over to Scotland and now 2 of my kids are playing with the eagles and the people within club are passionate and loyal however simply put it is time to move things on and provide a facility that is practicable, sustainable and fit for purpose for modern times and right now is the best time to do this as there is genuine movement by South Lanarkshire Council and The Development Trust to be improve the Racecourse facilities.

Some of you will be aware of the aforementioned ongoing consultation within Lanark Council regarding the future plans of the ‘common good’ facility of the Racecourse and there are plans that will be drawn up by the local Master Planner over the coming months regarding the future use of the Racecourse. I am already in early-stage discussions with the Master Planner and the Community Asset Transfer Officer, and we are very much on their radar, and they are passionate about rugby and also have connections to our club which is great for us! However, simply put if we (the collective) don’t contribute towards this consultation then we will fall out of the pecking order for support in terms of our club’s future.

In terms of the outcome regarding what our facilities will be is still to be discussed at further consultations and will developed accordingly over the coming months, but we have to be front and centre right now to be part of the plan.

All in all, the catchment area around Lanark is large and if we can provide a training and playing facility that is suitable the growth of the club in terms of seniors, ladies and eagles will no doubt grow as a result.

Below is the link, please take the time to complete and I look forward to providing you with an update on the future of YOUR club in due course.

I’ve completed the form and within it is a section to infill about ‘what is your number 1 priority and why’, if you could include a brief commentary on this it will add to our credibility as club to be consulted upon for future plans.

Even if you are no longer involved in the club on a week to week basis the club has been there for you at some stage over the previous years and no doubt you would like to see it develop into something for future generations.

Regards

Kevin McCormack
